CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Class 1 - 3:30-4:10 PM

Renaissance Art:  

Grades 1-3  //  3:30-4:10 PM //  Instructor: Jen Grafton
Create art like the old masters of the Renaissance. Learn how to make your own fresco painting, coat of arms, Venetian mask, and more. We will explore topics of drawing, painting and character design.

Beginning Tap and Clog Dance:

Grades 1-3 // 3:30-4:10 PM // Instructor: Erika LaTour
This class merges the traditional clogging style with the basics of tap dance. Students will learn a variety of percussive steps, combinations and rhythm patterns.

Introduction to Stage Combat:

All ages // 3:30-4:10 PM // Instructor: Faith Blevins
This class will cover beginning components of fencing, theatrical stage combat and jousting.

The Madrigals:

Grades 4-8 // 3:30-4:10 PM // Instructor: Meg Willadsen
This class will introduce madrigal tunes common to the Renaissance Era. Vocal technique will be enhanced by unison singing.

The Minstrels:

Grades 4-8 // 3:30-4:10 PM // Instructor: Marsha Beeler
Renaissance Recorders. Become a medieval musician: learn to play, or review basic recorder skills, as you explore Renaissance tunes on that era’s most important instrument.

Class 2 - 4:10-4:50 PM

Masks & Mime :

Grades 1-3 // 4:10-4:50 PM // Instructor: Faith Blevins
This class will work on the art of pantomime and improvisation. We will explore some of the early Commedia dell’arte characters and work with masks as we learn to tell stories through pantomime and movement.

Solo Vocal Technique:

All ages // 4:10-4:50 PM // Instructor: Meg Willadsen
This class is designed to assist vocalists in developing their solo singing skills. We will cover breathing techniques, tone, dynamics, diction, facial expression and overall stage presence.

Beginning Piano:

Grades 4-8 // 4:10-4:50 PM // Instructor: Marsha Beeler
This class will introduce music basics for success on the piano: rhythm, counting, identifying notes on the keyboard, finger/hand position, note reading of treble and bass staff notes. Students will be expected to practice at home.

Class 3 - 4:50-5:30 PM

Renaissance Dance:

Students will learn the dances of the court and country. Bassadance, Pavane, Alman, Galliard, Coranto, Canario. Clogging will also be introduced in the curriculum.

Drums & Percussion:

All Ages // 4:50-5:30 PM // Instructor: Marsha Beeler
Students will explore a variety of rhythm patterns, using drumsticks, beat boards, crash cans, and tambourines.

It’s Hard to Be The Bard:

Grades 4-8 // 4:50-5:30 PM // Instructor: Meg Willadsen
This class will introduce William Shakespeare, his theater and his works, and cover setting, character, diction, projection, movement, stage direction and line memorization as they relate to Shakespearean acting

Scenic Design:

Grade 4-8 // 4:50-5:30 PM // Instructor: Patrick Brandon
This class will introduce the concepts and techniques used in set design and construction. Through painting, woodcraft, sewing, etc., students will design and make shields, banners and masks in keeping with a Shakespearean theme.

Guitar:

Grades 4-8 // 4:50-5:30 PM // Instructor: Drake Madrid
This class examines the fundamental concepts and techniques of beginning guitar. Students will develop the tools needed to make practice profitable and fun, understand chords, navigate the fret board, play basic finger style or use a guitar pick. Students must provide their own guitar and tuner. Nylon or steel strings are acceptable.  Click here to see instructor's suggestion for a guitar tuner.

Students may take 1, 2 or 3 classes, as interest and schedule permits. Choose 1 class from each section below up to a total of three classes. The price for each class is $50.00
