MONDAYS: 4:45-5:45 PM September 25 - November 13

Age: 1st-8th Grade // FEE: $80.00 // INSTRUCTOR: DRAKE MADRID // CHILDREN'S MINISTRY CENTER

This course examines the fundamental concepts and techniques for beginning guitar players. Anyone picking up the guitar for the first time must learn how to care for the instrument properly as well as be able to successfully execute the basic techniques needed in order to make playing smooth and enjoyable.
Students will develop the tools needed to make practice profitable as well as fun. We will explore ways to make scales interesting as well as learn the necessary chord shapes. Understanding chords are very important when learning guitar, and we will dissect the basic major and minor shapes. The basic pentatonic scales will also be taught to help with navigating the fret board with ease. We will give special consideration to the challenges of finger style guitar as well as learning how to utilize a guitar pick, both are equally important to know. We begin these tasks with the assumption that dedication to daily practice is the only way to claim mastery over aforementioned skills..
At the end of the session students will be able to 1) identify all the parts of the guitar as well as learn to keep the instrument in top condition 2) play all the basic major and minor chord shapes 3) play the pentatonic scales; and 4) be able to play basic finger style as well as use a guitar pick.
